Green Street

The Retail Sector Council (RSC) has launched a new digital hub offering practical advice for retailers wishing to become more sustainable.

Recent research looking at small and medium-sized businesses in the UK found that they are struggling to improve their environmental credentials, and this new hub aims to help with that.

The aim is to help not just individual retailers but to encourage groups of retailers in an area work together to gain greater benefits from stocking sustainable products, reducing transport costs, minimising packaging and encouraging recycling and reuse, as well as promoting energy efficiency such as renewable electricity.

My own take on it would be to group local businesses within social media to attract both local and wider audiences as part of this initiative, effectively creating new digital high streets.

You can read more in today’s Edie which is a great source of information about sustainable business. It sounds a great idea and I would be very interested to get involved in filming and promoting one of the retail groups.

Social commerce is important because it’s the new town square
